To All
As the subject states first impressions: hot, humid, SMOG! Our morning temp at 6 am is 80'. Humidity the same. The temp will rise to about 90' later in the day. Hey, what do you expect at only one degree off the equator. The air pollution is the most irritating. The only time you can actually see the blue sky is immediately after one of the thunderstorms and then it is only in patches, otherwise it's like a high gray fog. We have gotten rain almost everyday and it is accompanied with lots of thunder and lightening and provides a welcome cooling. So that's our wx at least here at the southern end of the peninsula.
So far Malaysia seems quite 1st world. We are near the city of Johor Bahur and just across from the island of Singapore, an independent country. Johor is modern with good roads, shopping malls, traffic, a good bus system and it appears most necessary services. Of course the one that are lacking seem to be those having to do with the marine industry. That said we have made contact with someone regarding our watermaker and hope to learn more in a day or so. The marina we are staying in is basic with no pool or stores for groceries or marine parts but it is FREE. There are several restaurants and a small mall within walking distance or as I said the public transit is good.
We have managed to get a broad band internet connection and it is reported to work throughout Malaysia, all for about $20 US/month. Now if I can figure out the "blog" perhaps I will be able to post some photos. either that or I may start sending these witty bits on our yahoo with photos attached, I do know how to do that, sort of. If any of you have suggestions let us who only have the computer skills of a 5 year old know.
Not much else for today, even with the heat we need to try and get some little boat jobs done, Kathy's favorite is washing anything using the unlimited water from the hose. A day trip to Singapore is planned. We wish you all the best. J&K
